Vanta Network is the world's first decentralized funding engine for traders, built on Bittensor Subnet 8.
SN 8. Rank 12 of 32 by emission
Vanta
Trading orders. A miner posts long, short or flat signals on forex, crypto, equities or commodities pairs into a simulated account whose size is set by deposited collateral in Theta, Taoshi's token. Validators book the orders against live prices with fees and slippage. What is paid for is the account's realized profit in dollars, week by week.
own docs · raw.githubusercontent.com
Miners can submit LONG, SHORT, or FLAT signal for Forex, Crypto, Equities, or Commodities trade pairs into the network during market hours.
Debt-based. Each week, ending Sunday 00:00 UTC, a miner's realized profit above its own prior high-water mark, in USD, times a penalty multiplier for drawdown, risk profile and minimum collateral, minus unrealized losses, becomes a payout the network owes. Average daily PnL carries 100 percent of the score; Calmar, Sharpe, Omega, Sortino and t-statistic are computed at weight 0.0.
code · raw.githubusercontent.com · vali_objects/scoring/debt_based_scoring.py
"Needed payout" = Cumulative earnings from activation through end of previous pay period (PnL in USD * penalties)
Sources disagree The docstring of debt_based_scoring.py says payout periods start and end at midnight Sunday 00:00:00 UTC; the same file computes week boundaries with TimeUtil.ms_at_start_of_week, which rounds to Monday 00:00 UTC via weekday(), and the pinned commit's challengeperiod_manager.py calls the boundary the first Monday 00:00 UTC.
Proportional to debt owed. Each miner's weight is its remaining weekly payout in USD divided by the emission projected, in USD, over the days left to Sunday. Every eligible miner also gets a dust floor: one unit in challenge period, two on probation, three in main competition. If the debts sum to less than the emission, the excess weight goes to burn UID 229.
code · raw.githubusercontent.com · vali_objects/scoring/debt_based_scoring.py
If sum < 1.0: assign (1.0 - sum) to burn address (uid 229 mainnet / uid 5 testnet)
Twelve validators were active on the 2026-09-09 chain snapshot. Commit-reveal is on. A validator is the exchange: it receives every order, prices it from live feeds, charges fees and slippage, keeps performance, penalty and emission ledgers in 12-hour checkpoints, runs plagiarism and elimination checks, and recomputes weights every five minutes. Nothing is sampled; every order is booked.
chain · hyperparams-2026-09-19.json
commit_reveal_weights_enabled True, weights_rate_limit 100, max_validators 64; chain-2026-09-09.json active_validators 12
Emission settles every 360 blocks, about 72 minutes. The payout period is a week, Sunday 00:00 UTC to Sunday. Ledgers checkpoint every 12 hours and weights refresh every 5 minutes. A new registration is immune from deregistration for only 1,200 blocks, about 4 hours, against the 5,000 most subnets use; the challenge period itself runs 61 to 90 days.
chain · hyperparams-2026-09-19.json
tempo 360, immunity_period 1200; SET_WEIGHT_REFRESH_TIME_MS = 60 * 5 * 1000; CHALLENGE_PERIOD_MINIMUM_DAYS = 61
Sources disagree The Sunday 00:00 UTC payout boundary comes from the debt_based_scoring.py docstring; the boundary the code computes, TimeUtil.ms_at_start_of_week, is Monday 00:00 UTC, and the head commit promotes pro-transition miners at that Monday boundary.
Two kinds. Traders pay Vanta Trading, Taoshi's prop-firm front end, a one-time evaluation fee, $14 for a $5,000 account up to $599 for $100,000 with a 100 percent reward split, and are paid weekly if they pass. The network's own page says the protocol A-books the best strategies into real capital. No figure for capital deployed or signals sold appears in text.
own docs · vantatrading.io
On a $100,000 account: 60/40 $259, 70/30 $329, 80/20 $399, 90/10 $499, 100/0 $599.
Copying another miner's orders: a follower detector compares order streams over a 10-day lookback at 2-minute resolution, flags similarity above 0.75, and elimination follows a two-week review. Eliminated hotkeys are permanently blacklisted. Recovering a loss earns nothing, since payout is gated on the high-water mark. A 1 percent floor on volatility blocks gaming the Sharpe denominator. Drawdown of 5 percent intraday or 8 percent end-of-day eliminates.
code · raw.githubusercontent.com · vali_objects/vali_config.py
PLAGIARISM_FOLLOWER_SIMILARITY_THRESHOLD = 0.75; PLAGIARISM_REVIEW_PERIOD_MS = 1000 * 60 * 60 * 24 * 14
Sources disagree The README at the pinned commit gives one drawdown rule for all miners, 5 percent intraday or 8 percent end-of-day, while docs/miner.md in the same repository says challenge-period miners are eliminated at 5 percent end-of-day and only main-competition miners at 8.

What it says
The subnet in its own words: the line the index took from its front door, and what the team has said on the record.
What is said about it
By other voices in the map, verbatim and dated.
Subnet 24 on Bittensor is an always-on trading competition between 200+ rotating miners brought to you by the Taoshi team.
What it shows
Explained from zero by the index, from the subnet's own materials, for someone who has never heard of Bittensor.
SN8 Vanta is a stock-picking contest with a live leaderboard, where traders and trading programs post buy and sell calls in play money, and the top of the table is handed real capital to trade.
The commodity, explained from zero
The product is a stream of trading signals: timed calls to go long (bet a price rises), short (bet it falls) or flat, on currency pairs, crypto, shares and commodities. The README says the network "receives signals from quant and deep learning machine learning trading systems" and ranks the miners behind them by returns, "while never exceeding certain drawdown limits". A drawdown is how far an account falls from its peak.
A good signal stream has a price because someone with capital can follow it. The front page calls Vanta "The World's First Decentralized Funding Engine for Traders", and llms.txt says the protocol "A-books the best-performing strategies into real capital deployment", meaning it trades them for real rather than betting against them. Parent company Taoshi Inc also sells a retail product, Vanta Trading, where a customer pays an evaluation fee from $9 for a $1,000 simulated account to $599 for $100,000, with a 10% profit target and 5% drawdown limits. The materials name no buyer of the signal stream and give no dated funding figure; the README's "Millions of $ Funding" links to a page reading "Registrations 0" without a browser.
Why it is on Bittensor at all
The front page states the difference as a table against traditional prop firms, the companies that stake traders with house money: scoring is "Validated Onchain, Immutable" rather than "Opaque, discretionary", participation is "Permissionless and global" rather than gated by geography, and the network "wins when traders win" where a firm "profits when traders fail". Whether the trading capital is bigger or cheaper than a firm's is not stated.
How the work gets done
Miners, the contestants, register a wallet key for under 1 TAO, deposit 300 to 1,000 Theta (Taoshi's own token, each unlocking $500 of simulated trading capacity) as collateral, pick one asset class and submit orders. Validators, the scorekeepers, record every order, apply simulated fees and slippage, track each account's daily profit and loss, and eliminate anyone who copies another miner's trades, drops 5% in a day or 8% from their best close, or goes 60 days without trading. Each week the previous week's profit, scaled by penalties, becomes a debt the network pays off through emission, the subnet's share of newly minted TAO, until midnight Sunday. Here the comparison breaks: a stock-picking contest costs nothing to enter, while an eliminated Vanta miner has its collateral slashed and burnt and its key permanently barred.
How you would know it works
The README points to the trade dashboard at vantanetwork.io/dashboard, and the tokenomics pages should show registrations, collateral and burns. To a fetcher each reads "Loading dashboard data"; a reader needs a browser. There is no dated benchmark or performance figure.
What is missing
No dated number for capital deployed or signals sold appears in text. The chain contact field is empty (llms.txt gives support@taoshi.io), and the discord field holds a username, not a link. There is no status page and no service commitment. The miner guide is undated, and the chain description says "liquidity and execution engine" where the site says "funding engine".
